THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPACE NEWS (L Hewitson) was stubborn to load. b) FIST OF FIRE (A Marcus) kicked the back gates which resulted in DECORATED (S Moodley) breaking through the front gates. This gelding was subsequently restrained by the rider, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) TILMEETH (*T Gumede) over-raced in the early stages. b) CAPE FOULWIND (L Ferraris) over-raced in the early stages and hung out in the straight. c) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with SHAKAHARI (48.75 lengths) in the running and as a result did not persevere with his ride from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Apprentice K Strydom reported that FLYING PEKAN (6.15 lengths) made an abnormal respiratory noise post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey K de Melo reported that A THOUSAND TUNES (7.45 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) In view of the performance of DIAMOND MASTER (R Fourie) (19.25 lengths, 36/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse DECORATED more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Moodley the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse DECORATED, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Moodley used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. h) SPACE NEWS (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Hewitson advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) DECORATED was ridden by Jockey S Moodley (advised 05.04.21/08h25). b) FORT WYLIE was ridden by Jockey J Samuel (advised 05.04.21/07h22). c) TILMEETH raced with a compression mask. d) SPACE NEWS raced with a compression mask. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) SHAKAHARI : Not striding out right front and coughing. b) FLYING PEKAN : Abnormal respiratory noise. c) A THOUSAND TUNES : Nothing obvious detected. d) DIAMOND MASTER : Nothing obvious detected. e) CAPE FOULWIND : Returned post-race having cast the right front shoe. SCRATCHINGS : a) MINGSHI : Elevated temperature (Trainer - 05.04.21/07h10). Rule 53.5 applies. b) GUITAR MAN : Reserve runner.
