THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOLLAR BRAND (O Noach) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ELUSIVE TANGO (L Mxothwa) was accidentally struck on the nose by Jockey R Khathi's crop (PATH OF CHOICE) at the 100m. b) Jockey's C Murray and K de Melo, the riders of JEAN'S MAN and ALPHA PAPPA respectively, reported that their mounts did not stride out freely in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. c) Jockey M Winnaar was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking LUCKY DANCER more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Winnaar signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the number of strikes over the permissible level. (13) d) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PATH OF CHOICE more than 12 times in the entire race and forward of the saddle on a number of occasions. Jockey Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the number of strikes over the permissible level (19), the distance over which and the manner in which he used his crop. e) ALL ABOUT AL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
