THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FLASH ROCK (*C F Dicken) and ROKSOLANA (J Penny) were slow into stride.
b) DALGETY BAY (P Strydom) stumbled leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) ROKSOLANA (J Penny) took an awkward stride at the 500m.
b) DALGETY BAY Jockey P Strydom did not persevere with his riding from the 300m, in view of this, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
When questioned regarding his riding of DALGETY BAY, Jockey Strydom told the Stewards that this filly stumbled at the start and took no interest thereafter. He added that DALGETY BAY did not enjoy the soft underfoot conditions and that in his opinion as a small filly, the length of the grass had inhibited her action and that he had not persevered with his riding for a substantial part of the race as the filly was showing him no interest.
The Stewards interviewed Trainer F P Habib telephonically, who supported Jockey Strydom's statement, and in view of this, the Stewards ruled that this filly is suspended from participating in races where the racecourse has been recorded having a penetrometer reading of 25 and above.
c) ILHA DA VARLETTE (*X Jacobs) shifted in away from the crop from the 200m and was immediately straightened.
d) LAGERTHA (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Ndzilana advised (LN).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
None.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) GREAT DIVA raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 31 March 2021 at 13H26).
b) ILHA DA VARLETTE raced with a compression mask on (declared 8 April 2021 at 08H02).
c) THE VILLA GRAND raced equipped with blinkers (declared 8 April 2021 at 07H48).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) DALGETY BAY examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
b) ROKSOLANA cut into left hind pastern.
THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
