THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) GAYLEACTIC STAR (A Mgudlwa) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) Jockey W Kennedy reported that he felt something amiss with CHERRY ROAD in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of MEET AT THE GEORGE (K de Melo) (4.55 lengths, 9/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer D Kannemeyer will be advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this filly on return to the stables. d) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse FUTURISTIC DAME more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Khumalo the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey S Khumalo struck the horse FUTURISTIC DAME, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Khumalo used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. e) GEORGINA ROSE (*K Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G B Puller advised (DA).
