THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) TEICHMAN (S Khumalo) was hanging in from the 450m. b) COROMANDEL (C Zackey) was briefly baulked between the 350m and 300m. c) Apprentice K Strydom (QUERARI'S COWBOY) dropped his crop at the 250m. Thereafter, this gelding was hanging in, in the concluding stages. d) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse TEICHMAN more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Khumalo the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Khumalo struck the horse TEICHMAN, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Khumalo used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. e) QUERARI'S COWBOY (*K Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P L Lunn advised (ML).
