THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SMORGASBORD (W Kennedy) was stubborn loading. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, MITCH GOT HIS WISH (F Herholdt) was awkwardly placed between WARRIOR CAPTAIN (G Lerena) which jumped out and ROLLWITHTHEPUNCHES (L J Ferraris) which jumped inwards. b) WARRIOR CAPTAIN (G Lerena) hung out from the 300m. c) SHEELA (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (DR). Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SHEELA more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R2000. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (13), the status of the race, the fact that he won the race and his recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline. d) SMORGASBORD (W Kennedy), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
