THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SOCRATES (R Munger) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SUNSET EYES (S Randolph) raced wide around the turn and into the straight. b) TRIP TO AFRICA (*T Gumede) was hanging in from the 400m. Thereafter, this gelding switched in to continue its run in the concluding stages. c) RAINBOW BRIDGE (L J Ferraris) was hanging in from the 300m. d) Between the 200m and 100m, SOCRATES (R Munger) was tightened for galloping room on at least 2 occasions when awkwardly placed on the heels of ULTRA MAGNUS (C Zackey) and on the inside of CATCH TWENTYTWO (G Lerena) which was hanging in from the 300m. e) ULTRA MAGNUS (C Zackey) and SILVER OPERATOR (K de Melo) were hanging in, in the concluding stages. f) Jockey D Dillon reported that GOLDEN DUCAT did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) In view of the performances of WILD COAST (G van Niekerk) (8.10 lengths, 16/1 in the betting), GURU'S PRIDE (S Khumalo) (7.20 lengths, 66/1 in the betting) and SUNSET EYES (S Randolph) (14.30 lengths, 100/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. h) RAINBOW BRIDGE (L J Ferraris), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
