THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KISS TO DREAM (*N Klink) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Apprentice P Mxoli reported that ALMALFI COAST changed stride continuously in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. b) GOLDEN MAGIC (C Zackey) raced with its tongue over the bit and as a consequence, proved difficult to settle and negotiating the turn. c) When questioned regarding the performance of WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE, Jockey M van Rensburg told the Stewards that his instructions were to race the filly from a rearward position due to her wide draw. Shortly after the start, the filly was awkwardly placed between the heels of KISS TO DREAM (*N Klink) and WHOLE OF THE MOON (D De Gouveia) which led to him being positioned further back in the field than desired. He added that he had anticipated that WHOLE OF THE MOON would shift inwards to secure the rail run in advance of him, however, he had had to wait for Jockey De Gouveia to direct WHOLE OF THE MOON inwards and towards the rail which had resulted in him losing further ground. Furthermore, Jockey van Rensburg said that WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE commenced to hang outwards upon straightening and in his opinion still showed signs of greenness in the running. When asked if the filly was able to finish the race off strongly, Mr van Rensburg said that in his opinion this filly had done so and would be competitive in races over further ground in future but that she needed to be hard ridden to provide a strong finishing effort. The Stewards noted his explanation. d) MISS VENEZUELA (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
