THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GENTLEMAN'S WAY (W Kennedy) was restless in the stalls and lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) GOLD SEASON (K de Melo) and TRULY WICKED (J Gates) were carried out by MACH FOUR (L Hewitson) which jumped out sharply leaving the starting stalls. As a consequence of this incident, TRULY WICKED (J Gates) raced detached from the field in the early stages.
b) Entering the straight, KAPEN PRIDE (S Randolph) was carried out by GENTLEMAN'S WAY (W Kennedy) which rolled out.
c) Trainers P V Lafferty (VICTORIOUS MAN) and S J Snaith (MACH FOUR) will be advised that their respective runners failed to adequately parade and that should these horses behave similarly in future, they may be suspended.
a) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse KAROO LARK more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Veale, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Veale struck the horse KAROO LARK, the distance over which and manner in which Jockey S Veale used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R2000 was imposed.
b) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse TOLTEC more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Moodley, the Board considered the distance over which and manner in which Jockey S Moodley used his crop, his record (0) in relation to this Rule and in particular the number of times he struck TOLTEC (17). Accordingly, a penalty of R2000 was imposed.
c) KAROO LARK (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer S Ferrie acting on behalf of Trainer D R Drier advised (ML).

a) MACH FOUR was ridden by Jockey L Hewitson.
