THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 400m, ZIMBABA (L Hewitson) switched in to continue its run. Thereafter, in the concluding stages, this filly shifted both ways away from the crop. b) Jockey G van Niekerk (FAVORITA) appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his decision to strike FAVORITA using his crop in the right hand in the concluding stages, despite FAVORITA giving him every indication that this horse was hanging out from at least the 400m. In this regard, Jockey G van Niekerk was of the view that this filly was coming through to win the race under the hands. However, when she shifted out to obtain a clear run, he was of the view that further encouragement with the crop was required but did not want to break this filly's momentum so close to the finish, hence, he elected to retain his crop in the hand he was holding it. The Board noted the explanation from Jockey G Van Niekerk. However, the Board advised him to be more decisive in his riding, with his attention being specifically drawn to his opportunities to change his crop to his left hand at an earlier stage when FAVORITA indicated she was inclined to hang out. c) Jockey C Zackey reported that COLOUR OF LIGHT made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey S Khumalo (POINT OF SALE) and Jockey S Moodley (LINEAR) reported that they felt something with their respective mounts in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) VIHAAN'S PIE (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Naidoo advised (DA). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) COLOUR OF LIGHT : Abnormal respiratory noise. b) POINT OF SALE : Not striding out both hind. c) LINEAR : Not striding out right hind. d) SILENT CRUSADE : Abnormal respiratory noise.
