THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LET'S GO FLY (L Ferraris), STAFF SERGEANT (K Sakayi) and BRING ME SUNSHINE (L Hewitson) lost 1 length, respectively. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 1600m, the saddle on STAFF SERGEANT (K Sakayi) slipped forward badly. As a consequence of this incident, Jockey K Sakayi's lead bag became dislodged at the 1400m. Thereafter, ZERO RATE (W Kennedy) was carried out by STAFF SERGEANT (K Sakayi) which shifted out and was eased out of the race from the 1300m. Subsequently, during the weighing in process, Jockey K Sakayi (STAFF SERGEANT) weighed back in at more than 0.5kg underweight. Consequently, an objection was lodged by the Clerk of Scales against STAFF SERGEANT. After considering the evidence before the Board, the objection was upheld, and in terms of Rule 69.7, STAFF SERGEANT was disqualified from the Race. b) LET'S GO FLY (L Ferraris) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) RUBONDO (*K Brewer) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. g) Jockey G Lerena signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MANTERIO more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey G Lerena the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey G Lerena struck the horse MANTERIO, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey G Lerena used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. Jockey G Lerena was further advised that should he appear before the Board regarding similar contraventions in the near future, more severe sanctions may be imposed. d) SEATTLE BEAT (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Prinsloo acting on behalf of Trainer K Naidoo advised (ML).
