THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NAVAL GUARD (+S Siphika) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) MILLERS BRAE (+J Arendse) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. c) THE LIP (+I Lukhele) was slow losing one length. d) THE ARROW (+N Ngqwangi) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (LN): a) Shortly after the start, ON THE WARPATH (+V Sithetho) was bumped in by MILLERS BRAE (+J Arendse), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) Work Rider I Lukhele felt something amiss with THE LIP in running and eased this gelding out of the race at the 1100m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) THE ARROW (+N Ngqwangi) commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m. d) CATCHTHEGREENLIGHT (+T Matsoele) hung out from the 400m. Thereafter, CATCHTHEGREENLIGHT shifted out continuously away from the crop from the 300m. Work Rider T Matsoele appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film of the race and advised to take the necessary correctives measures in keeping his mounts on a straight course in races. e) Work Rider G Dadamasi reported that he felt something amiss with FORT COMMANDER in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Work Rider S Siphika was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking the horse NAVAL GUARD more than 12 times in the entire race. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (24) and the distance and manner in which Work Rider S Siphika used his crop. Work Rider S Siphika signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in three Work Rider races. Dates of Suspension: 3rd June 2021, 8th June 2021 and the 14th June 2021. Work Rider S Siphika was warned that this type of crop use was unacceptable. Furthermore, the Board have recommended to Mr C J Maree, who oversees the Workriders, that Work Rider S Siphika attend a refresher course at the Thoroughbred Development Trust as his standard of ride was unacceptable. g) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning JACKHAMMER, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer W H Marwing was advised. h) CATCHTHEGREENLIGHT (+T Matsoele), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (RH). WORK RIDER CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) ON THE WARPATH raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 13 May 2021 at 13H48). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) FORT COMMANDER abnormal respiratory noise. b) JACKHAMMER post race distress (moderate); bilateral epistaxis, recommended 60-day suspension. Trainer W H Marwing was advised (KS). c) CATCHTHEGREENLIGHT blood in the mouth. d) THE LIP right front bilateral sesamoid fracture. Humanely euthanased. Specimens collected for analysis. Trainer S M Naidoo advised (TL). SCRATCHED: a) INVINCIBLE WALL injured left fore forearm (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
