THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NEVER ENDING RAIN (M Winnaar) and NIGHT RULER (R Fourie) were slow into stride. b) ZOUTMAN (L Mxothwa) was restless in the stalls. c) ADMIRALTY ARCH (D Ashby) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In a tightly bunched field approaching the 900m SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (R Munger), which raced green, was brushed on both sides by BRAMHALL PHOENIX (O Noach) and DRAGONFLY (K de Melo), lost momentum and then had to steady off the heels of DRAGONFLY (K de Melo). b) At the 1000m SIR TALLIN (G Cheyne) was awkwardly placed between NEVER ENDING RAIN (M Winnaar) and TOUT A FAIT (R Khathi) and had to be encouraged to hold its position. c) QUE SHIRAZ (A Andrews) was held up when racing tightly between the inside running rail and SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (R Munger) from the 200m and until leaving the 150m. d) At the 150m HOT SUMMER (C Bantam) rolled out away from SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (R Munger) and had to steady when close to the heels of BRAMHALL PHOENIX (O Noach). e) ADMIRALTY ARCH (D Ashby) raced green. f) NEVER ENDING RAIN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D McLachlan, acting on behalf of Trainer GS Kotzen, was advised. (BM) g) DRAGON FLY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
