Jockey L Hewitson appeared before the Board with regard to this incident, was shown the patrol films of this Race and advised to take more care when shifting ground in races in future. b) An Inquiry will be opened in order to establish why FINAL DESTINY (L Ferraris) and CUPID'S SONG (W Agrella) had to ease approaching the 1000m. c) MORSE (L Hewitson) was hanging in between the 400m and 300m. d) MASTER VISION (R Fourie) shifted out away from the crop at the 400m. e) In the concluding stages, Jockey K Sakayi (PHILISPIEL) had his crop struck from his hand by Jockey L Hewitson (MORSE) whilst racing in close proximity. f) In the concluding stages, BLACK FOX (*K Strydom) had to ease when racing onto the heels of BRIGADE (*T Gumede). g) In view of the performance of CUPID'S SONG (W Agrella) (10.50 lengths, 14/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. h) Jockey L Hewitson signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MORSE more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey L Hewitson the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey L Hewitson struck the horse MORSE, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey L Hewitson used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. i) Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MASTER VISION more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey R Fourie the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey R Fourie struck the horse MASTER VISION, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey R Fourie used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. j) Jockey K de Melo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse FADE TO BLACK more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey K de Melo the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey K de Melo struck the horse FADE TO BLACK, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey K de Melo used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a warning was imposed. k) MORSE (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G B Puller advised (SC).
