THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN ARIANO (*T Gumede) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 1000m, STATE OF MIND (*K Brewer) which over-raced in the early stages, elected to race around the field and to the lead at the 700m. b) Jockey L Hewitson appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the non-vigorous nature of his ride on POINT OF SALE between the 400m and 250m. In this regard, he explained to the Board that, this filly had a short run in and in the past, had run her best races when racing with cover and being produced as late as possible. Consequently, Jockey L Hewitson's instructions today, were to hold this filly up for as long as possible and allow her to finish its race off strongly. Trainer G S Kotzen appeared before the Board with regard to this matter and confirmed the above instructions. Jockey L Hewitson and Trainer G Kotzen were advised that when such tactics are adopted, these instructions must be reported to the Board prior to the race in question. c) PURPLE PERSUASION (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P B Muscutt advised (ML). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) CAPTAIN ARIANO Apprentice T Gumede was only able to claim 1kg of his 1.5kg apprentice and weighed out at 51kg. b) PURPLE PERSUASION Jockey R Fourie weighed out at 54kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight.
