THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) The saddle on COPPER MOUNTAIN (G Lerena) slipped back shortly after the start. This was confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon. b) FULL BLAST (S Moodley) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) RUSSIAN ROCK (K de Melo) commenced to over-race in the middle stages. d) FLYING CARPET (L Ferraris) and LINEBACKER (G van Niekerk) were hanging in from the 300m. e) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with DR DOOLITTLE in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse RASCALLION more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Veale struck the horse RASCALLION, the distance over which and manner in which, he used his crop, the fact that this was a Grade 1 race and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R3000 was imposed. g) Jockey S Cele signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse KOMMETDIEDING more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Cele struck the horse KOMMETDIEDING, the distance over which and manner in which, he used his crop, the fact that this was a Grade 1 race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. h) LINEBACKER (G van Niekerk), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer V H Marshall advised (RJvR).
