THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GOLD GRIFFIN (W Kennedy) and SMILEY RIVER (*J R Syster) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Between the 300m and the 150m, BRAND NEW CADILLAC (M Yeni) was carried in on two occasions by AFRAAD (S Khumalo), which was hanging in. b) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking AFRAAD more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey S Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 2,000-00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (14) and Jockey S Khumalo's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline. c) SET THE STANDARD (R Danielson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Houdalakis advised (GF). d) BRAND NEW CADILLAC (M Yeni), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis Stable Employee D Monatisa advised (AH).
