THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BIG THINKER (R Khathi) over raced in the early and middle stages. b) LETS BOOGIE BABY (S Mbhele) shifted in continuously away from the crop from the 350m. Jockey S Mbhele appeared before the Board and was advised to take the necessary corrective measures to keep his mounts on a straight course so as to avoid losing ground in similar circumstances. c) Jockey S Mbhele was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guidelines M & C on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking LETS BOOGIE BABY more than 12 times in the entire race and on consecutive strides in the latter stages. Jockey Mbhele signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Mbhele's recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey Mbhele used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. d) LETS BOOGIE BABY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
