THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GLOBAL APPROACH (S Mbhele) jumped awkwardly, losing one length. b) FLY OVER (O Noach) & DOUBLE AGENT (R Khathi) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start EXCEEDER (G Behr) became unbalanced when brushed on the hindquarters by CHASING MAVERICKS (C Bantam). b) DOUBLE AGENT (R Khathi), which pulled hard and raced wide in the early stages, was ridden forward to the front of the field from the 1600m. c) Jockey A Andrews, the rider of MAMBO EXPRESS, reported this gelding did not stride out freely in the running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey C Murray was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking UNIVERSE BOSS more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Murray signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Murray's recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey Murray used his crop and the number of strikes (16) over the permissible level. e) STRIKE SPEED, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PAW Botha was advised. (SC) f) ON YOUR MARKS, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
