THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GREAT AFFAIR (M Yeni) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 300m, MAJOR RETURN (A Arries) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the outside of IN AURO (C Zackey) which was carried out by ARROW'S MARK (S Randolph) which was brushed out by GREAT AFFAIR (M Yeni) which was hanging out from the 400m. b) In view of performances of MRS HOTLINE (D Dillon) (14.75 lengths, 11/2 in the betting) and ELLIS ISLAND (W Kennedy) (6.95 lengths, 16/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) An Inquiry will be opened with regard to Jockey S Moodley's (ASSURED) crop use in this race. d) An Inquiry will be opened in order to establish why IN AURO (C Zackey) had to ease in the concluding stages. e) Jockey S Randolph signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ARROW'S MARK more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Randolph struck the horse ARROW'S MARK, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. f) SPACE NEWS (*K Brewer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Hewitson advised (SC). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) SPACE NEWS was ridden by Apprentice K Brewer (claiming 4kg) and this gelding raced with a compression mask (advised 14.06.21/15h44). b) DECORATED Jockey K de Melo weighed out at 54.5kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) MRS HOTLINE : Nothing obvious detected. b) ELLIS ISLAND : Nothing obvious detected. THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED : a) Jockey D Dillon stood down after the running of this Race:- sprained left foot. Unable to continue riding. Dr Pillay. Rule 25.12 applies.
