THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SAINT WEST (M Winnaar) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIREALLEY (O Noach) and LIBERTY HALL (G Behr) pulled hard in the early stages and were difficult to settle. b) ALL ABOUT AL (G van Niekerk) over raced and proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages. c) Jockey C Murray, the rider of THE SECOND WAVE, expressed concern regarding the awkward action of this gelding in the early stages, which was then eased out of the race at the 450m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. In view of the post-race veterinary report, Assistant Trainer Miss L Woodruff appeared before the Board and was requested to report back should she find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. d) KNIGHTS TEMPLAR (R Khathi) failed to secure clear running on the inside rail and was directed outwards to continue his run leaving the 300m. e) Jockey R Khathi, the rider of KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, reported that this gelding changed stride continuously in the latter stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey L Mxothwa (ROCKIN' RINGO) dropped his crop at the 200m. g) ROYAL WATCH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised.
