THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SILVA MAGIC (K de Melo) lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) In view of the performance of CHITENGO (G Lerena) (3.25 lengths, 2/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
b) Jockey A Mgudlwa (MAMA PYJAMA) appeared before the Board and was advised to ride his mounts out to the end of the race so as to leave no room for query from the Stewards.
c) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ELECTRIC SURGE more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse ELECTRIC SURGE, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R3000 was imposed. Jockey S Moodley was further advised that the frequency of his contraventions regarding this Rule is unacceptable and that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar contravention in the near future, a more severe sanction may be imposed.
d) Jockey M Yeni signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse JASMINE more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey M Yeni struck the horse JASMINE, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed.
e) KEEP ON DANCING (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W Whitehead advised (SC).
f) ELECTRIC SURGE (S Moodley), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R Hill advised (ML)
