THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MEZZYOONA (R Fourie) prematurely broke through the front gates resulting in a false start being declared. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MEZZYOONA (R Fourie) broke through the front gates prior to the start being effected. This caused a false start. Subsequently, all runners were restrained by the respective riders, returned to the start, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. b) At the 250m, HOT STRIKE (A Mgudlwa) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of SPACE ODDITY (S Khumalo) which had to check off the heels of INDOMAVEL (L Ferraris) which shifted out sharply away from the crop and was immediately corrected. In assessing this incident, the Board was of the opinion that the sharpness of the outward movement by INDOMAVEL (L Ferraris) could not be anticipated by Jockey L Ferraris. Therefore, this incident was deemed to be a racing incident. The racing manners of INDOMAVEL (L Ferraris) will be monitored by the Board moving forward. c) In the concluding stages, SEA OF TRANQUILITY (M Yeni) had to be checked and lost position, when awkwardly placed on the heels of ONE NIGHT IN PARIS (S Moodley) which was hanging out and shifted out from the 300m. A member of the Stipendiary Board called a race review into this incident. However, after viewing the patrol films from the various angles, no further action was taken. In arriving at this decision, the Stipendiary Steward took into consideration that despite SEA OF TRANQUILITY (M Yeni) being prejudiced with regard to its finishing position by the interference, it could not be established from the footage that SEA OF TRANQUILITY (M Yeni) would have beaten ONE NIGHT IN PARIS (S Moodley) but for the above interference. An Inquiry will be opened into this incident. d) Jockey W Kennedy reported that ALITTLEBITNAUGHTY took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer Gareth van Zyl will be advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. e) In view of the performance of MEZZYOONA (R Fourie) (34.90 lengths, 25/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) ONE NIGHT IN PARIS (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
