THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NOEMI (A Arries) lost 2 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BELLA BELLARINA (R Fourie) raced wide around the turn and into the straight. In view of the performance of this filly (14.80 lengths, 16/1 in the betting, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) DUCHESSOFCORNWALL (M V'Rensburg) had to be restrained off heels at the 600m. Thereafter, LHASA STAR (S Randolph) was carried out around the turn by DUCHESSOFCORNWALL (M V'Rensburg) which rolled out. c) GINGERSPATHTOGLORY (M Yeni) was hanging in from the 300m. d) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse NOEMI more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Arries struck the horse NOEMI, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. e) MIND SET (*K Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L W Goosen advised (SC).
