THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAPPY ARISTOCRAT (G van Niekerk) and TOP RANK (K de Melo) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MASTER OF POWER (C Bantam) proved difficult proceeding to the start and caused a delay. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. b) At the 250m ALINGALONGA (G Cheyne) was unable to secure a clear run between the inside running rail and KAPTEIN (C Murray) which rolled in away from MASTER OF POWER (C Bantam) which was hanging in. c) At the 150m TOP RANK (K de Melo) had to be steadied when unable to secure a narrow run between CAPTAINS WORLD (S Mbhele) and JAIMALA (L Mxothwa) which rolled in slightly. d) ASSERTIVE POWER (R Fourie) had to be directed outwards to continue its run leaving the 100m. e) Jockey C Zackey, the rider of MELIORA, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding and he did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of HAPPY ARISTOCRAT, reported that this gelding did not act in the soft underfoot conditions. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. g) Jockey O Noach, the rider of SECRET GLIDER, reported that this gelding did not act in the soft underfoot conditions. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. h) JAIMALA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised.
