THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BASS LINE (D Schwarz) was slow into stride. b) SEPTEMBER BLOSSOM (*c f Dicken) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey G Lerena the rider of SPRINKLES briefly dropped his right-side rein shortly before the finish line. b) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SPRINKLES more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2000 was imposed. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (14) and Jockey Lerena's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline. c) SPRINKLES (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
