THE STARTER HAD NO REPORTS. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 600m, ROYAL MAZARIN (M Yeni) ran onto and clipped the heels of UNDERSTATED (L Hewitson). Consequentially ROYAL MAZARIN (M Yeni) became unbalanced, rolled in, and made contact with the inside running rail. b) Jockey L Hewitson was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking UNDERSTATED more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey L Hewitson signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 2,000.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (15) he used the crop in the entire race as well as his recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline. c) ROYAL MAZARIN (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
