THE STARTER REPORTED
A) AFRICAN HOOPOE was nervous in the stalls.
B) BEACH BOUND was slow into stride.
C) LADY CLARISSE was unruly at the start, stubborn loading, jumped awkwardly outwards leaving the stalls and made contact with OVERJOYED.
D) OVERJOYED was stubborn loading and bumped at the start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
A) LADY CLARISSE was difficult on parade, fell over and dislodged Apprentice Y Ramzan without incident. This filly was examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon on her arrival at the start and passed fit to race.
B) At the 400m, DERECHO (G Cheyne) was momentarily inconvenienced close to the heels of AFRICAN HOOPOE (X Ndlovu) which raced green, was hanging out, shifted out and proved difficult to be straightened.
C) At the 350m, ANGEL OF TIME (J Mphanya) had to be steadied for a number of strides when AFRICAN HOOPOE continued to shift out.
D) After interviewing Trainer A C Greeff, with regards to this filly's racing manners who advised the Board that she is blind in her right eye, the Board was satisfied that Jockey X Ndlovu could not be held responsible for these incidents. The racing manners of this filly will be monitored going forward.
E) Jockey L Mxothwa (BEACH BOUND) accidentally dropped his crop leaving the 200m.
F) In the closing stages, AFRICAN HOOPOE (X Ndlovu) was directed to the inside of DERECHO (G Cheyne) to continue its run.
G) In view of the performance of LADY CLARISSE (*Y Ramzan) (distance 47.80 - betting 50/3) which raced green and trailed the field throughout. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
H) The winner TIME OFF was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer W G C Miller advised (LM).
