THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PIKETBERG ALLEY (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing one length. b) AFRICANROYALJEWEL (D Ashby) jumped outwards and carried CHAUELS CAMELOT (A Andrews) outwards. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey D Ashby reported that AFRICANROYALJEWEL raced with its tongue over the bit, was hanging out throughout, proved difficult to assist and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. b) At the 350m JEM ROCK (G Cheyne) had to steady when awkwardly placed on the inside of SON OF SILK (G van Niekerk). c) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of SON OF SILK (Betting 4/1 : Distance 18.00) reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer WA Nel was requested to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. d) BRANDY'NCOKE (C Bantam) returned suffering from a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr J Batt) e) CHAUELS CAMELOT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
