THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FUTURE TRIP (*R Venniker) fly-jumped leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Apprentice R Venniker reported that FUTURE TRIP took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
b) Jockey K de Melo appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which, in his opinion, contributed to the poor performance of ILLICIT KISS (10.75 lengths, 67/100 in the betting). In this regard, he explained that, in his view, this gelding failed to appreciate today's increase in distance in comparison to its last 3 runs (1000m, 1000m and 1300m). Additionally, he was of the view that this gelding's stamina was further strained after it over-raced in the early stages and was forced to race 3 wide around runners on the turn. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey K de Melo who also advised the Board that he had given the same feedback to Assistant Trainer J Buckler who was acting on behalf of Trainer G Kotzen. Notwithstanding this explanation, the Board requested that the Veterinary Surgeon examine ILLICIT KISS post-race and Assistant Trainer J Buckler will be advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables.
c) CATCH THE TUNE (D Dillon), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Robinson advised (SC).
