THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PARTNER IN CRIME (R Danielson) and EXCELLARATOR (D Dillon) were restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) ANYTIME CHAMP (M Yeni) raced fiercely in the early stages. b) QUANTUM KING (G Lerena) and WATERBERRY LANE (K de Melo) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) STARRYWINTERNIGHT (M V'Rensburg) raced wide in the middle stages. d) STARRYWINTERNIGHT (M V'Rensburg) raced wide in the middle stages. e) At the 250m, PARTNER IN CRIME (R Danielson) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of WILLIAM ROBERTSON (R Munger) which was hanging out between the 400m and 200m, proving difficult to assist. Trainer C Spies will be advised that the racing manners of WILLIAM ROBERTSON (R Munger) are unacceptable and that should this colt behave similarly in future, it may be suspended. Additionally, Jockey R Munger appeared before the Board and was cautioned regarding the length of his reins when attempting to correct hanging horses which are difficult to assist. f) In the concluding stages, LAIRD OF BREEDON (S Brown) was bumped in by SAFE RETURN (S Veale) which was carried in by PARTNER IN CRIME (R Danielson) which rolled in. g) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse HONOKALANI more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse HONOKALANI, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed. h) GOOD TRAVELLER (G van Niekerk), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G S Kotzen advised (SC).
