THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : b) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with FAVOUR at the 1500m and as a result eased his mount out of the race. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer D Kannemeyer will be advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. c) SUNSHINE SILK (M V'Rensburg) was hanging in from the 400m. Jockey M V'Rensburg appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on SUNSHINE SILK with particular reference to his decision to race 3 deep from the 1800m. In this regard, he explained that, at the 1800m, he had felt that SUNSHINE SILK had begun to over-race as the pace began to slow. Thereafter, in anticipation of a continued steadying of the speed and with SUNSHINE SILK continuing to over-race, he was of the view that there was a suitable opportunity to race around runners and acquire a more forward position one off the inside. However, as he shifted SUNSHINE SILK into the clear, the pace quickened just enough that she was unable to make up the ground as anticipated and was forced to race in the 3 deep racing line between the 1800m and 1300m. Subsequently, when the pace slowed, it allowed his mount to make up ground around the field and to the outside of the leader at the 900m. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey M V'Rensburg and has adjourned to review the footage of the race. d) At the 350m, WEALTHY (S Veale) and SILVER HOST (R Fourie) were carried out by BEFORE NOON (S Moodley) which had to switch out off the heels of CHITENGO (G Lerena) which raced in a handy position into the straight and subsequently compounded. Thereafter, WEALTHY (S Veale) and SILVER HOST (R Fourie) came together and bumped at the 300m. e) In view of the performances of PATHS OF VICTORY (W Kennedy) (9.50 lengths, 16/1 in the betting), DOUBLEMINT (C Zackey) (8.90 lengths, 33/1 in the betting) and CHITENGO (G Lerena) (18.70 lengths, 20/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Jockey R Danielson signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey R Danielson struck the horse OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. g) Jockey R Munger signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse HOLY WARRIOR more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey R Munger struck the horse HOLY WARRIOR, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. h) NEBRAAS (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (SC).
