THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SEEKING THE STARS (G van Niekerk) and JET DARK (S Khumalo) lost 2 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SEEKING THE STARS (G van Niekerk) over-raced in the middle stages. b) JET DARK (S Khumalo) raced fiercely in the middle stages. c) CATCH TWENTYTWO (G Lerena) was hanging in between the 300m and 200m. d) In the concluding stages, GOT THE GREENLIGHT (M Yeni) and DO IT AGAIN (R Fourie) came together and brushed. Thereafter, when racing in tight quarters, Jockey R Fourie's crop brushed the arm of Jockey M Yeni. e) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with SOVEREIGN SPIRIT in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning SOVEREIGN SPIRIT, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Assistant Trainer T Brown acting on behalf of Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (Suspension Dates : 01.08.21 - 29.09.21, bdi) g) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse JET DARK more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Khumalo struck the horse JET DARK, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R3000 was imposed. h) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.10 in that he made a celebratory gesture shortly before the finish line whilst riding JET DARK. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. i) JET DARK (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S J Snaith advised (ML).
