THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PACAYA (S Khumalo) jumped awkwardly.
b) JET MIRAGE (S Mbhele) and NEGOTIATOR (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter were slow into stride.
c) THUNDER MASTER (G Cheyne) jumped slow, losing two lengths.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) EMPIRE GLORY (A Domeyer) proved difficult to proceed to the start and had to be led by a handler. Trainer GW Ennion was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements he may be suspended.
b) Leaving the 100m GENTLEMAN (F Herholdt) had to be checked, losing momentum when tightened for galloping room between POWER STRUGGLE (O Noach) and SILENT TRIGGER (L Tarentaal), which raced green, shifted in away from crop and was immediately straightened.
c) At the 50m MARADIVA (K Steyn) was held up for a number of strides when brushed inwards by EMPIRE GLORY (A Domeyer) which rolled in. Shortly thereafter MARADIVA (K Steyn) was carried out and had to be checked off the heels of TRANSACT (D Ashby) which was carried out by HOLLOW POINT (G Behr) which raced green, shifted out sharply and was immediately straightened shortly before the finish. While straightening HOLLOW POINT, Jockey Behr dropped his crop.
d)` Jockey O Noach, the rider of POWER STRUGGLE, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
e) In view of the performance of NEGOTIATOR (C Zackey) (Betting 9/2 : Distance 13.30), which raced green, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
f) PACAYA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised. (TJ)
