THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MISTER VARGUS (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MISTER VARGUS (S Khumalo) cast his left front shoe at the start, which was replaced, causing a delay. Thereafter, while loading, MISTER VARGUS (S Khumalo) cast his left front shoe again, which necessitated the field having to be unloaded while the shoe was being replaced, causing a further delay. b) Shortly after the start, MISTER VARGUS (S Khumalo) was shifted in and had to be steadied away from the heels of MYHOPESANDDREAMS (G van Niekerk). c) Jockey K de Melo, the rider of SPECTRA FORCE, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) SUDDEN STAR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Robinson was advised.
