THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LIGHTENING SPIRIT (*K Strydom) and HIGHER PURPOSE (W Kennedy) were stubborn to load. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) LIGHTENING SPIRIT (*K Strydom) over-raced in the middle stages. b) At the 350m, GREAT GUY (*J Jacobs) was brushed out twice by KNIGHT WARRIOR (R Fourie), which had initially attempted to secure a narrow run however, upon being unable to do so, was forced to ease at the 300m and was switched in to continue its run. Thereafter, this gelding finished its race off strongly. c) SEVENTH SONG (S Moodley) was hanging in, in the concluding stages. d) Jockey K de Melo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 21.13, in that as the rider of GRANDE MAESTRO he failed to fulfil his riding engagements in this Race. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. e) BRANDENBURG (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer N Kotzen advised (ML).
