THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BROADWAY BABE (*J R Syster) was slow into stride. b) SPACE RACE (W Kennedy) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. c) TIKI TAKA (J Gates) stumbled leaving the stalls. d) COUNTRY MILE (R Munger) was stubborn loading. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 450m, SPACE RACE (W Kennedy) had to steady when carried onto the heels of MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz) by TOUCH OF FATE (M Yeni) which rolled out. b) At approximately the 350m, MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz) had to switch in off the heels of WUHAN (Wes Marwing) which had come to the end of its run to obtain a clear run. c) Jockeys C Maujean (BLUE EYES) and J Gates (TIKI TAKA) reported that their respective mounts did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. d) MIDNIGHT GEM (D Schwarz), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P P Labuschagne advised (DR). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) BROADWAY BABE was ridden by Apprentice J R Syster (declared 19 August 2021 at 08H27). b) SILLY FELLA was ridden by Jockey K Matsunyane. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) TOUCH OF FATE raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 12 August 2021 at 13H00) and raced without blinkers (declared 19 August 2021 at 07H21). b) MIDNIGHT GEM raced with a pressure halter on (declared 16 August 2021 at 10H00). c) WUHAN raced equipped with blinkers (declared 18 August 2021 at 15H18). d) BROADWAY BABE raced without blinkers. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BLUE EYES examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. b) TIKI TAKA not striding out behind. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
