THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ALITTLEBITNAUGHTY more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey A Marcus struck the horse ALITTLEBITNAUGHTY, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. b) Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse SPACE ODDITY more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (16) Jockey J Gates struck the horse SPACE ODDITY, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. c) Apprentice K Strydom signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse GOLDEN DELIGHT more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Apprentice K Strydom struck the horse GOLDEN DELIGHT, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. d) ALITTLEBITNAUGHTY (A Marcus), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Gareth van Zyl advised (DA).
