THE STARTER HAD NO REPORTS. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GOLDEN PHEASANT (S Khumalo) was baulked from the 500m to the 300m and thereafter commenced to hang out from the 200m. b) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking the horse GOLDEN PHEASANT more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R 1,500.00 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (14) and the manner and distance over which the crop was used. c) Jockey D Schwarz reported that ORPHEUS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) IMPERIAL RUBY (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee F Naude advised (AH). When questioned regarding the improved performance IMPERIAL RUBY (R Munger), Trainer C Spies explained that this horse had benefited from a four-month break. Trainer C Spies was advised that this gelding's future performances will be monitored and should he not maintain consistent form, he may be suspended. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ORPHEUS abnormal respiratory noise. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
