THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) ESTIVAL (T Godden) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) At the 1300m, THE GREEN GALLANT (M Yeni) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of BOLD PREMIER (*J Syster), which rolled in. Apprentice J Syster appeared before the Board and was advised to take more care when shifting ground in future. c) MANHATTEN CAFE which raced greenly in the running, shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. d) At the 250m, LUCRETIUS (*K Strydom) which was hanging in from the 400m, had to ease when awkwardly placed on the heels of ESTIVAL (T Godden), which rolled out marginally. e) CASERO (*T Gumede) was hanging in, in the concluding stages. f) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline C, in that he struck the horse BEND THE RULES more than 3 times on consecutive strides in the concluding stages. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. g) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse BEND THE RULES more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Marcus, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey Marcus struck the horse BEND THE RULES, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Marcus used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. h) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse ROYAL MONARCH more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse ROYAL MONARCH, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule.
