MISSOURI was slow away losing two lengths. Between the 100m and the finish line, LUNAR DANCER , was carried in a substantial amount of horse widths from the outside to the inside of the track by MILL CREEK, which shifted inwards severely from the 200m. An Objection was lodged by the assistant trainer of the second placed horse against the first placed horse, on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the closing stages. The Objection Board, after giving regard to the evidence put forward by the respective parties and reviewing the Patrol Films from various angles, took into account that Apprentice Rusike was unable to fully assist her mount in the final 100m and covered unnecessary ground due to the severe carry. The Objection was therefore upheld and the first and second placings were reversed. Apprentice Satombo was charged with a contravention in that, as the rider of MILL CREEK, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference, bunching, intimidation and/or constitute a source of interference or danger to LUNAR DANCER. Apprentice Satombo signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding for 7 days. MILL CREEK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. O LUCKY MAN raced with ear muffs on.
