THE STARTER REPORTED: a) THE APPEAL (*K Strydom) dislodged Apprentice K Strydom shortly after the start was effected. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) A race review was called into the start of the race, pertaining to THE APPEAL (*K Strydom) drawn in stall gate 4. In this regard, it was established that, shortly after the start was effected, THE APPEAL (*K Strydom) threw its head back, dislodging Apprentice K Strydom after he was struck on the head. In making a determination on this incident, the Board took a statement from Apprentice Strydom as well as the handler who was allocated to THE APPEAL, both of whom confirmed the visuals available on the patrol films. Consequently, in reviewing this incident, the Board was of the view that, THE APPEAL was not impeded by a handler nor by a faulty starting stall and that, the reason for the above incident was solely due to the horse's behaviour. Therefore, no further action was taken and THE APPEAL was deemed to be a runner. b) As a consequence of the above incident, Apprentice K Strydom was unable to weigh back in and acting in terms of Rule 66.2, the Board was satisfied that THE APPEAL had carried the correct weight. c) Jockey S Moodley reported that ROCK WITH ME did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) MAXIUMUS (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer N Roscoe acting on behalf of Trainer D Kannemeyer advised (SC). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) ROCK WITH ME : Nothing obvious detected. THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED : a) Apprentice K Strydom stood down after the running of this Race:- injury to neck. Referred to hospital for x-rays. Unable to continue riding. M.O Dr Pillay. Rule 25.12 applies. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS
