THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MY BESTIE (R Khathi) was slow into stride. b) CAPTAIN'S KNOT (L Mxothwa) brushed the right front gate leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The saddle on CAPTAIN'S KNOT (L Mxothwa), which pulled hard in the early and middle stages, slipped back shortly after the start. This was confirmed by a stipendiary steward. b) Jockey R Fourie hesitated with his riding leaving the 50m when awkwardly placed on the outside of SAFE RETURN (A Marcus). c) In the concluding stages Jockey A Marcus was unable to ride SAFE RETURN to the finish when close to the heels of RUSSIAN ROCK (K de Melo). d) Jockey R Fourie, the rider of IT'S ABOUT TIME, reported this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of NIGHT RULER, reported he felt something amiss with this colt. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. f) TRIP OF FORTUNE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
