Thereafter, this gelding was hanging in from the 400m. b) In view of the performance of FADE TO BLACK (K de Melo) (15.80 lengths, 11/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Assistant Trainer N Roscoe acting on behalf of Trainer D Kannemeyer will be requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. c) In view of the performance of CANE LIME 'N SODA (A Marcus) (24.10 lengths, 6/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that as the rider of MAGARI, he failed to ride this horse out to the end of the race, to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. In assessing sanction, the Board took into consideration that whilst Jockey J Gates held the position for third in the closest of finishes, this was fortuitous rather than his ride being of the standard required by the Stewards. Consequently, a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed rather than a suspension from riding in races as would have been the norm had Jockey J Gates failed to hold third position. e) Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse MAGARI more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey J Gates struck the horse MAGARI, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R750 was imposed. f) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse LIVING WATERS more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (18) Jockey S Veale struck the horse LIVING WATERS, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2500 was imposed. g) LIVING WATERS (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Prinsloo advised (ML).
