THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPTAIN DIZZY stumbled as the start was effected and dislodged Apprentice J Solomons. b) APOLLO ACE (G Cheyne) stook awkwardly in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Apprentice J Solomons was dislodged shortly after the start when CAPTAIN DIZZY stumbled badly leaving the stalls. Apprentice J Solomons was examined by the course medical doctor and stood down for Race 4 pending further evaluation. b) Leaving the 800m APOLLO ACE (G Cheyne) was brushed outwards by FATEFUL (C Bantam) which raced onto the heels of MR COBBS (A Domeyer) and shifted out. c) Jockey G van Niekerk was unable to ride SPRING AWAKENING to the finish when close to the heels of MR COBBS (A Domeyer) which rolled in in the concluding stages. d) MR COBBS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
