THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPIRIT OF SILVANO (K de Melo) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 400m CHARLIE SQUADRON (A Domeyer) had to be steadied when unable to secure a run on the inside of CAPTAIN PERSIA (D Schwarz) and had to be directed to the outside of SECRET OASIS (A Marcus) to obtain clear running. b) BLIZZARD (L Mxothwa) and SPIRIT OF SILVANO (K de Melo) raced green. c) Jockey A Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SECRET OASIS more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey A Marcus' recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey Marcus used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. d) Trainer M Rix was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.6.1 in that she failed to notify the local office of the National Horseracing Authority within two (2) business days that JACK AND GINGER had been gelded. Trainer M Rix signed an Admission of Guilt and was given the penalty of a warning. e) I WANT IT ALL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
