THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WAR BANNER (D Schwarz) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MOYA WA LALIGA (R Munger) hung in from the 300m. b) At approximately the 250m, KING'S SPEAR (S Khumalo) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between COVERT OPERATOR (G Lerena) and BABY DONT HURT ME (W Kennedy). c) At approximately the 200m, COVERT OPERATOR (G Lerena) shifted out off the heels of WAR BANNER (D Schwarz) to continue its run and thereafter continued to shift out away from the crop. Jockey G Lerena appeared before the Stipendiary Board, was shown the patrol film of the race. The Board was satisfied that Jockey G Lerena was sufficiently clear of the other runners; however, he was advised to take more care when shifting ground in races, in future. d) Shortly before the finish line, BABY DONT HURT ME (W Kennedy), which hung in from 200m, had to steady and thereafter stumbled when carried onto the heels of WAR BANNER (D Schwarz), which shifted out marginally away from the crop, by TRUST THE FIRE (S Brown), which was hanging in in the concluding stages. The Stipendiary Board was of the opinion that this was a racing incident; however, both Jockey D Schwarz and Jockey S Brown were advised to be more mindful of the proximity of other runners and riders relative to their position in races. e) Jockey G Lerena reported that COVERT OPERATOR made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) MOYA WA LALIGA (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B D Botes advised (RS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) TRUST THE FIRE raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 6 October 2021 at 13H49) and with a compression mask (declared 12 October 2021 at 07H55). b) KING'S SPEAR raced equipped with blinkers (declared 12 October 2021 at 07H46). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) COVERT OPERATOR examined post race, nothing obvious detected. SCRATCHED: a) ANGEL OF WAR elevated temperature (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies).
