RACING ASSOCIATION MAIDEN HANDICAP (For Maidens with 3 or more runs)

THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TYGER FLY (*M H Zuma), POMODORO HILLS (*J Solomons) and ORGETORIX (S Khumalo) were slow into stride. b) RUN FOR THE SUN (J Penny) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 900m, ORGETORIX (S Khumalo) had to steady and switch out to avoid the heels of POMODORO HILLS (*J Solomons) which in turn was steadied and switched out to avoid the heels of TYGER FLY (*M H Zuma) which was restrained when it commenced to over-race. b) At approximately the 300m, POMODORO HILLS (*J Solomons) ran onto and clipped the heels of LYNTYS LEGACY (K Matsunyane). c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that ORGETORIX choked up in running and did not persevere with his riding form the 250m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for this gelding's poor performance, Jockey Khumalo told the Stewards that ORGETORIX had come under pressure from the 600m and despite his vigorous encouragement, had failed to respond accordingly. He further explained that upon reaching the 300m, he had heard an abnormal respiratory noise and that this gelding had choked up and had weakened significantly in the concluding stages. Trainer A G Laird was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. d) Approaching the 150m, MERLINS BOY (*C F Dicken) had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed between LYNTYS LEGACY (K Matsunyane) and RUN FOR THE SUN (J Penny) which shifted in away from the crop. e) Jockey K Matsunyane reported that LYNTYS LEGACY made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) HEART OF HARLEM (N Klink), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Webber advised (RS). g) RA'ED (S Brown), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee S Keswa acting on behalf of Trainer S Moffatt advised (MdP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) RA'ED was ridden by Jockey S Brown (declared 13 October 2021 at 09H44). b) MERLINS BOY was ridden by Apprentice C F Dicken who claimed 1,5kg allowance (declared 14 October 2021 at 08H15). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) RA'ED is now trained by Mr S Moffatt (ex S G Tarry). RA'ED new ownership: Mrs J Moffatt (colours:- blue, white crossed sashes, yellow collar, sleeves and cap). Sold with engagements. b) POMODORO HILLS raced without blinkers (declared 14 October 2021 at 07H56). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ORGETORIX examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. b) LYNTYS LEGACY abnormal respiratory noise. c) POMODORO HILLS mild post race distress. d) MERLINS BOY coughing.
