FUNKY MUSIC (S KHUMALO) WAS SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION AND SUSEQUENTLY SCRATCHED. THE START OF THIS RACE WAS RESCHEDULED FOR THE BETTING PUBLIC TO RESTRUCTURE THEIR BETS. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) USHUAIA (*J Solomons), RIVER JORDAN (*J R Syster), STOP FOR NOTHING (S Brown) and RICCARDO (C Maujean) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In the concluding stages, NOBLE STRIKER (R Munger) was carried out marginally by LION OF THE DESERT (R Danielson) which shifted out away from the crop. b) LION OF THE DESERT (R Danielson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (RS). Jockey R Danielson signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking LION OF THE DESERT more than twelve times in the entire race. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times (15) as well as Jockey Danielson's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline and therefore imposed a penalty of a fine of R1500.
