THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RAIN WEAR (M Ntuli) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SPARKLING FLAME (S Moodley) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. b) BAY BREEZE (S Khumalo) over-raced in the middle stages. c) RAIN WEAR (M Ntuli) over-raced in the early and middle stages. Thereafter, this filly raced wide around the turn and into the straight. Jockey M Ntuli appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to the above decision, to race as wide as he did. In this regard, he explained that, at the 700m, this filly was travelling so strongly in the run that he was mindful to not get caught behind runners and sought to obtain a clear run into the straight. However, when he elected to move this filly into the clear to make up the ground using the 3-wide running line, Jockey S Khumalo (BAY BREEZE) also elected to switch out on his inside. This resulted in Jockey M Ntuli racing significantly wider than he anticipated. The Board noted and accepted the explanation of Jockey M Ntuli, however, reminded him of his obligation to not cover unnecessary ground when riding in races. d) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse BAY BREEZE more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Khumalo struck the horse BAY BREEZE, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record (4) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R1500 was imposed. Jockey S Khumalo was also advised that, his recent frequency regarding contraventions of this Rule were unacceptable and that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar matter in the near future, more severe sanctions may follow. e) BAY BREEZE (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) ROY'S DECISION raced with alumites in front, unshod behind, raced without blinkers and with a compression mask (advised 12.10.21/14h50). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) AMBLE INN : Brush wound left hind. b) RAIN WEAR : Returned post-race having cast the right front shoe.
